OCTOBER 12th, 2010 tuesday

Thanksgiving week-end was good eh? The weather was unbelievable. Went for a couple runs in between the Turkey Feast. One on Saturday with Maureen and Randy - we did the Poplar Avenue Route plus the loop down 7th Ave and in the Legion Park. Then another run yesterday, Monday the 11th - did the Rick Reich/Ried Minish Loop which is all of 9th Ave., Valley Road, Swan River Drive, Ross and back to the Arena. Both runs about 36 minutes.

Out this morning at about 6:10a.m. Did a backwards loop from Morley's Bridge South on 4th Avenue to Reich's, over to Valley Road, etc. Thought I'd meet Barnes and Vegus as they are usually out earlier.

Met Lance on 2nd Ave. North and just behind him another runner that I said good morning to (I met him later again near Super 8 on the Highway). Also met Kevin Warkentine on his route.

Ya, so still excellent running weather. Footing is good, it's dark out early in the a.m. but there are street lights, calm (usually in the early a.m. it is calmer than mid day) & don't need layers of clothing yet.

Did you see Canad AM this morning? They interview'd some seniors on exercising. Two were in their 80's and one was 63. They were all very active runners, in good shape (Torontonians, if you can believe!!) One guy, in his 80's, was a record breaking runner - his legs looked like 20 year olds. The Lady who was 63 biked, swam and run and she said she is in better shape than she has ever been. She was on her bike when they were talking to her. I think she said she did all three exercises every day. That guy in his 80's with the legs...., he said he dosen't feel like he is in his 80's at all; said he feels the same as he did when he was in his 20's. They work at it. We who exercise a 1/10 of what they do, can appreciate it. It's not just week-end exercise or fairweather exercise, it's regular stuff. How many kilometers do you run per week? A reasonable goal could be 32 clicks (20 miles)? What do you think? What do you do? What are your goals? Should you have a goal? Another option could be 16 km running per week and then complimented with a different exercise (weights, skating, bike).

I'm hit and miss: I usually get the Tuesday, Thursday runs in which are average 4.5miles - so that's 9 miles and then I sometimes get a week-end run in of 5 to 6 miles. Therefore, I'm sort of averaging 14 miles or 22km. I could pick up the mileage a bit. I especially think I should when I think of the Canada AM interview this morning. On the other hand, that's not too shabby for winter running here. It will keep us "tuned-in" for Spring Training.

Keep give'nér,
gk

didn't make it out this morning. Did a couple of longer runs Sunday & Monday so thought I'd take a day off.
20 miles a week is my goal I'm usually in and around that.
Maybe see out there tomorrow.
