Rob: Thanks for the comments on the cold leg treatment after a run. I usually do the opposit - have a hot shower after a run. I'm going to try and cool those legs down first now. Last week-end at the lake, I stood in thigh deep water only.
Derek: Sounds like you're Hell Bent on Saskatoon. Good deal. A 16km run at 1 hr. 34 minutes is a 9.4 minute mile. Excellent!!!!!!! Way to go Derek. Show them how Swan Riverites do it when you hit Saskatoon.
Lance: Good to hear you're out and about. Our paths aren't crossing as much right now but no biggy. They will again. Keep give'n'er. Boot Camp Mania
I did intervals this morning. Tuesday is intervals, Thursday is tempo and Saturday or Sunday is long run. I do the intervals at the Regional track. The Tempos usually the by-passes and the long runs are mostly up at the lake on the week-end. It's a variety of locations at least. The track is level and a measured 400 meters. This morning I was to do three sets of 1600 meters. A bit much for me. I can't do a flat out run for that long. 1609 meters is a mile. And so I customized my intervals to try and get that top speed out of them. Instead of 3 1600's I did 12 400's. The 400 meter run at flat out is more like a hockey shift. Then a rest on the bench and then go again. By customizing, for me, at least I'm achieving that top speed. If I tried to do that over a mile - I simply wouldn't be able to do it. I wouldn't evne come close. Not right now at least. Maybe a little bit more into the program. But I kinda doubt it. It probably has something to do with the number 63. If that number was transposed to a 36.
Anyway, we'll keep give'n'er. I know I'm pushing it and everything (body parts) are fine - not hurting, no injuries. I sure hope it stays that way. I always warm up for a mile or 10 minutes before I pushing for faster runs. And, when I start a fast run from a standing start, I ramp into it like a merging lane rather than a jumpstart.
My weight. Still fighting that. This morning I was at 155lbs. Still 10 lbs over my target running weight of 145 lbs. It's a battle! I know what the simple solution is but my will power wall isn't hight enough.
Keep give'n'er,
gk

Hello Everyone,
Wind around the lake yesterday in Portage. I have added weight training to my workouts. I've always been anti-weight training. However, I have noticed some differences that are positive. I am only running 2x/week. With the weights and walking that I am doing, I thought I would give my joints a bit of a break. So when most people are ramping up I am ramping down. But..."change is good donkey!"
