Hey there Allweather Runners:
A new week and a new month coming up. And, we are not the only ones running this week - it's municipal elections right across the province. Double time: time to get out and vote and time to get out and run.
A bit of wet stuff this morning....... and a bit thick. I never went early morning but rather at 11a.m. I thought I'd wait and see as it was raining pretty good at 5:30a.m. The run at 11 was good. I ran 36 minutes and ran out to the highway then up by Minish's, then the Rotary Park, then the Legion Park, the Ag path and home again. On the Ag path, I was headed into the wind and the snow was hitting my face like tiny needles. Had a toque and mits on. My first run in the snow this year - October 26th, 2010. It was great. I was dressed for it and was comfortable. Even tho I was wet by the end of it, I wasn't in the least cold. When you see somebody running in that weather or you think about having to run in it yourself, you can't help but think - no, it's too cold or too wet, etc. But, you know what, it's ok. In fact it's envigorating and chanllenging. It feels good actually, faceing into those tiny snow needles.
The Legion Park Ashpalt Pathway. The big roots from the Hybrid Poplars that surfaced and heaved the asphalt have been cut out and reasphalted. Good job Town of Swan River, that's what needed to be done! Both pathways are kept open in the winter and what a great places to run or walk. No traffic, less wind, some hills for the legs. It's great we have these outside places, especially in the winter.
Just a couple suggestions for council to think about: One more street light in the Legion Park. Located somewhere along the straight stretch that parallels 9th. It's pretty black in there. And the other sugguestion: Take the Rotary Path ways to the next stage. Put some street lighting in there too. It would be great if we had lights on the pathway from 5a.m. to 9a.m. every day (in the winter). And then again in the evening from 5p.m. to 9p.m. Got to keep going ahead, can't stay still.
That's it. That's all the suggestions. I forgot myself, I got into the wrong running. I'm into running running not policial running. But thank you anyway to all those ears out there that are policical running.
Keep give'nér,
gk

i would like to know how all weather runners deal with condensation from breath on scarfs around the face in the winter. has anyone tried a snorkel?
