February 18th, 2010, thursday

-5*C, overcast but very bright reflection of the Town lights and Street lights (1/4 to 6a.m.). The light sort of reflected back from the low clouds. The footing was 1/2and 1/2. Lance and I did the 5.6k loop via Reich's & Minish's. There had been some snow fall which mixed with sand/salt and made a very tough "mulch" to run on. We ran on asphalt where we could find it. It's sort of like running in sand. Or like x-country skiing up a grade with no "kick-wax" so your ski slips back. It just takes more power to run. Maybe our calfs will feel it a bit tomorrow morning?

Olympics are going strong - speaking of x-country skiing. It's hard to tell on TV just how fast those skiers are going but they are really moving. See them when they cross the finish line? They are complelty exhausted. What a great sport to get some exercise. Right now, here in Manitoba, there are some good x-country ski trails in great shape. Close here in Swan Valley is the Muesum, The Golf Course, The Interpretive Center (Wellman Lake road), Glad Lake, Madge Lake, Riding Mountain. We did a ski last week-end at a place called Bittersweet which is on PR 242 between Treherne and Rossendale - about a 1/2 hour out of Portage la Prairie. Very well groomed for traditional and skating styles. Excellent snow conditons. A good time to get out there, right now and cross country ski.

Next run is on Tuesday the 23rd of February. Can you believe that? - almost out of February. Time flies when your having fun.

Catch you later,
Keep give'n'er,
Go Canada Go,
gk

i did a random route this morning -often looking for pavement as i found it a challenge to run on the street "mulch". my legs are already heavy from the additional work.
how pleasant to run in this temperature.
have a great day.

It was really nice temperature wise, but I was really struggling in the mulch as well. It made it much harder on the legs, and I was struggling at the end.
Have a good one.....
