TUESDAY the 18th of May 20010

5:17a.m. start. 18*C above. So nice. We've had a few runs where it's -18*C. I ran the new by-pass this morning plus some streets in town. The mileage was 6.714 miles and my time was 63 minutes. So, it took me 9.38 minutes to run a mile. To get under 2 hours in 13.1 miles, I need to be running just under the 9.00 minute mile. Obviously, still have some training to go to be comfortable running at that goal. I'll keep logging as many miles per week as I can get in. Now's the time to get lots of running in. I did bike out to Pretty Valley on Monday (not a running day). The hills out there are a good workout on the legs as a cross trainer. On the run this morning, I did 10 sections (about a hydro pole distance apart) of speed bursts.

Seen Angela out again this morning on Reich's road as I was comning in on the by-pass.

This week-end I have a long run of 10 miles. The next week-end a 12 mile long run and then down to a 6 mile long run and then the 1/2. Getting there. It takes a lot of time, training time, even for a 1/2. At this point in the training, you feel that you wish it were all over. But........ that's what it takes.

June 1st is the start of early bird swimming. That's a good cross trainer too. Gives the legs a bit of a rest. For me, my legs kinda drag along behind just for the ride; enjoying it. Mostly, a workout for the arms and lungs.

Seen Dorthy Sadler, speaking of runners, last week. She looks in great shape as always. We never talked running as she was mostly gearing up for a fishing trip.

The May Long coming up. Beautiful weather. Keep give'n'er everybody,
gk

i really appreciate mornings like today after running all winter. i was too warm - again. it's great to see more people out around the
6 am hour too. today i saw lots of walkers, a couple bikers and a few other runners.
by the way - virden manitoba just had a community run as a fundraiser for their new rec centre. they had 250 runners participate in a 10km. race. so good for them - a great way to get people out to run and also support their community project.

I just booked my room at the residence on campus, at the UofM, for marathon weekend. Booked a double room for Erin and I. Beats getting up and driving in from Portage so early. Will bring back memories too (lived in rez for 2 years)!
