Terry Fox run.
It was good. A beautiful day; sun; no wind; t-shirt weather. 90 participants.
Could have been the last of the shorts weather. I hope not, but as I write this posting, it's miserable, drizzly, wet and cold outside. Right now it's 8p.m. on Monday night.
Run tomorrow. Back into the Tuesday, Thursdays at 1/4 to 6a.m. That's all we need is a couple times per week, plus.......... We should have another cross-exercise event that we can mix it up with. So that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, we do something else. Such as .......... swiming ( but we have to wait on that one until we get a pool year round) Swiming is a very good one that compliments running. It is almost completely opposite in that the legs and joints just float and don't impact. But man does it give you a great cardio workout. Or, like Reid and Val - snowshowing - another great exercise. All you need is some deep snow. Lots of great leg movement exercise. I guess you need more than just deep snow, you need some clothes - a good base layer for starters. Lots of sweating in this exercise. Or, how about hockey? That's my choice. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday noon hour. It's like doing speed work in running. Heavy fast short bursts and then a rest. Much the same as running up hill or against heavey resistance such as wind.
All this exercise is on a sliding scale as one gets older. As the body ages it has less and less capacity to obsorb oxygen. When you hit the age 50, it's like falling off a cliff. However, and a big however, the whole ageing process can be slowed down by exercise. A good one to focus on.
Keep give'ner,
